What is book coaching?
Once upon a time, editors at publishing companies were able to find new writers and spend a lot of time nurturing them, growing them into authors of classics such as The Great Gatsby. Now, with the advent of eBooks and self publishing, editors at traditional publishing companies have too many books on their plate to have time to help writers hone their craft; they look for books that are already solid and market-ready.
Enter the new field of book coaching. A book coach is a cheerleader, a source of accountability, and a voice of reason and honesty. As a book coach, Katie works hard to support her clients to become better writers, to strengthen their books, and to help them finish and work toward their goals. You can read more about book coaching in this blog article.
Can you guarantee that I will get published?
Short answer: no.
Long answer: There are no guarantees in publishing. You may have a fantastic book with realistic characters, a compelling plot, and a rewarding ending, but if the timing with the market isn’t quite right your book might get rejected. And you might have an okay book that gets pitched at just the right time and picked up even though the main character is a little flat or the subplot is distracting from the point of the story.
Bottom line? We can help you strengthen your book to meet its potential, but we can’t guarantee that you will get published.
Is it better to have a manuscript finished before seeking coaching? Or is it better to work with a coach while writing?
While coaching is beneficial at any point in the process, being coached during the writing process—and even before starting to pen the actual manuscript!—can pay extra dividends. This is because we can help you get the fundamentals of your story strong before you’ve written anything (or are near the beginning of the manuscript) and also help you hone your craft while you are writing. Often, this means a finished first draft at the end of the coaching process is miles ahead of an uncoached first draft.
Do I have to use the packages outlined on the site?
No. The packages outlined on our site are our standard packages, but we are definitely willing to discuss custom packages.
How does payment work?
Once a writer contacts us about a service and we have discussed it with them (sometimes through a free consultation), we create a quote. The quote is sent to the writer via email for approval. After the quote is approved we generate an invoice, which the writer can then pay via debit or credit card.
Do you ever offer payment plans?
Yes, we are open to discussing payment plans on a case-by-case basis.
Can I purchase a package for a friend/family member?
We’d love to talk to you about this! Contact us and we can discuss.
