Ready to polish your draft?

Check out Katie's fiction editing services below.

If your story has solid foundations but you'd like some help tightening it up and making it even stronger, then it's time for a developmental edit!

Developmental Edit

$30/1,000 words

Developmental editing is for a full manuscript draft that you've taken as far as you can on your own.

A developmental edit includes:

  • Close reading of your pages
  • Evaluation of fundamental issues
  • Flagging of inconsistencies
  • Evaluation of recurring technical issues (syntax, grammar, etc.); I do not mark every instance, but instead flag patterns and then educate you in the editorial letter about how to revise these patterns
  • Comments throughout your manuscript
  • Editorial letter (10+ pages) summarizing my findings and laying out next steps
  • 60-minute coaching call to talk through the feedback and recommended next steps

Standard turnaround time for this service is 6-8 weeks.

"Going into the developmental editing process, I was nervous about some of the major changes I would have to make in my story. However, Katie helped me process through major roadblocks of my manuscript in her developmental edit that was easily understandable and actionable. With her feedback, I was able to see how my story and characters will improve and come to life in ways that exceeded my expectations. I’m so excited to see how my manuscript will improve based off Katie’s edits!"

If your story is all set but your prose needs some polish, then it's time for a line edit!

Line Edit

$50/1,000 words

Line editing is for manuscripts with solid foundations but where the prose needs to be tightened. Think of line editing as making your prose shine. I am happy to do a 5-page* sample edit upon request.

A line edit includes:

  • Close reading of your pages
  • Intensive sentence-level edits to tighten and elevate the prose
  • Flagging of inconsistencies
  • Flagging and editing of recurring technical issues (syntax, grammar, etc.). Please note that a line edit is not a copy edit and so the manuscript is not guaranteed to be error-free
  • Editorial letter (7+ pages) summarizing my findings and laying out next steps

There is not a standard turnaround time for this service, but a turnaround time can be quoted after a sample edit is performed.

A coaching call to discuss feedback can be added a la carte.

*Manuscripts must be submitted in standard manuscript format: 1” margins, Times New Roman 12pt font, double-spaced.

"Katie is thoughtful and thorough in her editing. Her recommendations for revision are spot on and done with a kind spirit. I am continuing to work with her as I polish this manuscript as her knowledge and direction have been helpful for not only this WIP but also my other manuscripts (one of which was edited by someone else and had major romance plot issues)."
